Turok: Evolution

I've grabbed this game off EBay mostly because that I have Turok 1: Dinosaur Hunter, Turok 2: Seeds of Evil, Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion, and Turok Rage Wars for Nintendo 64. The 4 N64 Turok Games were great, cause you had to collect keys and what not to help you go to the next level, and has a variety of weapons and tools. But Turok Rage Wars was practically just a "shoot-em-up" kind of shooting game, it's a bunch of Multi-Player games you would find in Turok 2: Seeds of Evil, Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion, such as Monkey Tag, but there are Bosses to beat, and have a few other features that you wouldn't find in the Multi-Player games of Turok 2 and Turok 3.

So I finally got Turok: Evolution for PlayStation 2 from the mailbox yesterday, and when I started playing it, it somewhat reminds me of the N64 Turok games, mostly for it's controls. Everyone knows that the design of the N64 Controller looks completely different compared to the PS2 Controller, but why on earth does the controls feel similar? It felt similar to the N64 Turok games mostly how you move. On the Turok N64 games, you use the joystick to move forwards, backwards, and side to side, and you use the C-Buttons to look up and down, and to turn around. Same goes with Turok: Evolution for PS2, you use the Left Joystick to move forwards, backwards, and side to side, and you use your Right Joystick to look up and down, and to turn around. Basically the same thing but instead of using the C-Buttons, it's another joystick.

I didn't have all the weapons but some of the ones I have are like the ones on the N64 Turok games, such as the Tek Bow, it does use the typical arrows and explosive arrows like on the N64 Turok Tek Bows. However the N64 Turok games doesn't have Poison Arrows as Turok: Evolution for PS2 does. Also like the N64 Turok games, some of these weapons it has a scope, but instead of using the D-Pad to use the Scope, you use R3 (to press R3, push down the Right Joystick).

The Joysticks, and some of the weapons, and some other things from the Turok games reminds me of the N64 versions, but what kinda wrecks Turok: Evolution PS2 is that you do not find keys or pieces to help you advance to the next level, like you do in Turok 1, 2, and 3 for N64. The controls might be a somewhat difficult thing to do for some of you players out there, cause it's kinda hard to switch your thumb to the X, Square, Circle, and Triangle buttons to the right joystick, I have check the options, there is a default and alternative kind of controls, so the alternative controls may be your kind of controls than the default controls, but you could not switch a specific button, which was kinda a downer, I would of like to put the Jumping button on one of the L and R buttons. The Grafixs and Sound is obviously better than the N64 Turok games and has 4 Save slots, it also has Multi-Player games, some of them seems similar to N64 Turok games like Death Match. So, some parts are kinda rough around the edges, but it is a good game, also note that it's M for Mature, so expect pretty violent scenes and language.
